What the Heck is going on with Building Materials?
Even with, or probably because of Covid-19 we are in the middle of a building boom in both remodeling and new homes. Last year we hit a 14 year high in new home starts in addition to
quarantining Americans looking to remodel their homes.
Lumber costs have increased to an all-time high with some products demanding over 3 times the price of only a year ago. Industry wide, costs are increasing as well as lead times getting longer and some items just not available.
Ever since the start of Covid-19, construction times have increased greatly. Starting with fewer workers on the jobsite at one time, to crews being stretched out to not as many workers available and
everyone being extremely busy.
So, when will this get better? Honestly, no one knows. As more people get vaccinated and Covid-19 cases go down , lumber and other production should ramp up and supply should increase but will that be later this year or into 2022?
For now, we ask people to be as patient as they can and we will do our best to take care of all our customers as timely as possible.
